About

Hi. I’m Brad Shively, the creator of How I Got Hired.

This is me, trying to survive the heat in Austin, Texas

I’ve worked in technology for around 10 years, and I’ve been fortunate enough to land jobs at some amazing companies, including Google and Uber. I’ve grown into an engineering leadership role at Uber, and by day I manage a large team of engineers working on software tools.

I’ve also spent quite a bit of time over the last few years helping relatives, friends, and customers to:

  • Write better resumes
  • Apply and get invited to interview for jobs
  • Successfully prepare for interviews
  • Negotiate salaries and prepare counter offers
  • Ask for (and get) promotions and raises

This site is my attempt to take all the lessons I’ve learned, distill them down into their simplest and most useful forms, and share them with you. Together, we’ll talk about how to land an interview at one of your dream companies, what to expect during the interview process, the art of salary negotiation, and many other aspects of career growth.

Along the way, I’ll describe how I think about common career challenges as a manager responsible for building and growing software teams at an elite tech company.

Thanks for taking the time to check the site out. If you don’t want to miss any updates, use the form below to sign-up for my mailing list. I’ll let you know whenever I have new lessons to share. I’ll never spam you or sell your e-mail.
